Centrica – SAP

Centrica plc is a British multinational energy and services company with its headquarters in Windsor, Berkshire. Its principal activity is the supply of electricity and gas to consumers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has over 20,000 employees and is one of the largest suppliers of gas and electricity to consumers and businesses across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Challenge

Centrica were in the midst of a data centre exit programme and wanting to migrate all workloads to Azure. One of the key workloads that powered the Centrica business was SAP. SAP on-premises was often challenging and on a number of fronts. Deployment of new SAP platforms was often very time consuming and there were also significant challenges when it came to installation of new hardware to support growth and scaling.

Outcomes

We were responsible for designing and deploying the platform which Centrica would deploy SAP onto in Azure. As part of this we deployed some of the most powerful VMs on the platform to power the SAP systems for Centrica.

Alongside this we also introduced significant automation to make deployment and scaling a far simpler exercise as well as introducing various security solutions and services to ensure that the SAP workload was appropriately protected post-migration.
